Lampropeltis triangulum, aka "Tropical Kingsnake"

We keep the grass around the house short for a reason. Luckily this snake, aka Coral falsa, was dead (thank the lawnmower) when I stepped on it while walking across the freshly cut lawn. Yes, I was watching my step and had a shovel in hand, but I still didn't see it until I was on top of it. It may look big but was only maybe 14" long. Not poisonous but had it been a real coral snake, also common here, ouch!

Mother Nature has her ways of keeping us alert to our environment. Lesson learned.
