A Pioneer Moment
Maybe you can relate to this. ... We were late for a dinner reservation because seven large bulls found their hoof-heavy way onto our property and were pock-marking our lovely zonaverde, just lumbering about, grazing on our tender shoots and flowers. It was one of those moments you don’t think is really happening, or hope isn’t. We debated for a moment from a distance, all freshly showered and nicely dressed inside our fairly clean car, whether or not we were really seeing them on the other side of the fence, and some optical illusion was just making it seem like they were right there, under our trees, making themselves at home on our side of the fence. Alas, it was no visual trickery. Only the threat of our lawn turning to mud and the possible extinction of our flowers motivated Chris to get out of the car, hit two bamboo sticks together, and yell "Heeya!" while rounding up and chasing the large bovine down the driveway and back out the open gate (doh!). He was very macho and turned out to be a real cowboy in what had the potential to be a true rodeo-clown moment. That’s my man! . . . And we still made it to dinner.
