As I Sit

As I sit
in my kitchen
And polish
a glass of wine
I look around
and think
This has become
my house
This is
my home
With every intimacy
I have
I am linked
to this place
I have lived here
in love and fear
And wonder
I have lived here
strong and weak
And hopeful
I live here now
Full of promise
And wine
And I relish
The divinity
That has brought
Me, us here
That protects
Me, us here
That wants
Me, us here
I, we live here
And I give thanks
For this intimacy
I give thanks
for this home
I give thanks
for this wine (ah, were it from California)
I give and I receive
And that’s all I can hope
for this existence
I will not find the answer
To life on this day
I will not decipher the universe
In this glass of wine
Not today
But I will be here
And I will be grateful
And I will try
