Shake Out Your Boots
Wilder goes outside to play in the morning and despite our warnings to shake out his boots each time before putting them on, he has neglected to do so. A few minutes later he screams, kicks a boot off, and out flies a bird-sized moth. We laugh, he doesn’t, but the lesson is learned. At least it wasn’t one of the 4-inch diameter spiders we’ve seen jumping around. We are also learning to be Zen with the fruit flies that thrive in our drains and swarm our food, but they are nothing compared to the 100 or so mosquitoes that populate our walls this night after a few days of warm rain and still air. Chris eliminates them with spray bottles of alcohol (double-fisted, pistol style) and the mosquito net goes up over our bed. We are now truly in the tropics.
